ScoringThe scores are shown beside each row and below each column, with the total shown at the bottom right hand corner. You score for words made either across or down. Normally a three-letter word scores 1 point and a four-letter word scores 3 points. However, an Australian word scores double - that is, 2 points for a three-letter word and 6 points for a four-letter word. When there are three-letter words within a four-letter word, the scores are added. Hence, MARE scores 5 points: 1 point for MAR, 1 point for ARE and 3 points for MARE. DINK scores 8 points: 1 point for DIN, 1 point for INK and 6 points for DINK, an Aussie word. However, when a four-letter word is a plural or verb form ending in S, there is no score for the three-letter word. For example, HATS scores 3 points - there is no score for HAT. |
